On Hearing Of Lal's Illness Poem by Francis Duggan

On Hearing Of Lal's Illness

I've been told that Lal from Buninyong of late has not been well
And that he's not drank for some while in the Bunny Crown Hotel
In fact I've been informed that he gave the booze away
And that he's not tasted alcohol not for many a day.

But I bet that Lal from Buninyong can still tell a good joke
And that with his sense of humour great laughter he provoke
He may have changed his life style and lost his taste for booze
But his wit and sense of humour are things he'll never lose.

Lal's not been well these past few years tis Nuffa told me so
And I felt surge of sympathy for one I used to know
For well known Buninyong character who oft drank in the Crown
With his own brand of humour Lal carved his own renown

And I know that Lal from Buninyong of his worries will make light
And that he will come out victor in this his greatest fight
He proved himself a winner in his battle with the booze
And this his most important fight is one he will not lose.
