On James Hewitt Poem by Francis Duggan

On James Hewitt

I've never agreed that people due to birth right should be entitled to be held in high esteem
And I've never been one of those royal watchers yet each to their own or so to me it would seem
But when I read how James Hewitt is trying to sell Diane's love letters to him to myself I can only say how low
Can one stoop to for to come by a quick fortune at the expense of one who died six years ago.

Diane did err in her choice of lover James Hewitt is such a low life after all
But some good women in the ways of love naive and foolish yet from our mistakes we've learned from since the day we learned to crawl
And Diane one who used her influence in a good way she truly was a Goddess of the poor
And despite some negative comments of her detractors of her place in history she is secure.

And as for James Hewitt he will die a nobody but suppose he's had his ten seconds of fame
Of one who is deceased he is trying to sell her letters he does not seem to have a sense of shame
He really does not have much to be proud of forgive me if good of him I don't say
If he's so bad in need of a quick fortune perhaps he should have found some other way.

The Goddess of the poor and the downtrodden she did the very best that she could do
Diane really was a marvellous woman who to a higher principle was true
And when I read James Hewitt is trying to sell her letters I
feel how untrustworthy some people can be
He has betrayed the trust of a deceased great who once loved him and I ask you how dishonourable is he?
