On Looking For God Poem by Francis Duggan

On Looking For God

On looking for God I searched in bush and tree
But Nature's green beauty is all I did see
I looked in the river and I looked in the rill
And I looked in the lake in the vale by the hill
In the scrub and the grass and around me everywhere
And I looked in the sky but God wasn't there
The skylark a musical speck in the sky
Kept carolling though out of my sight he did fly
Methought he must be singing near heaven's golden gate
Where the Gods of the Universe in song he does celebrate
With his border collie a farmer came along
As he whistled the tune of a happy old song
With a cheerful hello and a big smile on his face
In his heart it does seem for God there is a place.
