On Old Clara Again Poem by Francis Duggan

On Old Clara Again

Rating: 5.0

On the slopes of Clara overlooking Millstreet Town
On the bracken and heather I often lay down
And enjoyed the great scenery for many miles around
The views are much better from the higher ground
Caherbarnagh, Toorbona and the famed Paps of Shrone
And Gortavehy much nearer with it's face of stone
From Boherbue to Cullen and Rathmore and to Knocknagree
Twenty square miles of lush and green country to see
Above Clara hill in May, June and July
The skylark is carolling as upwards he fly
'Til in the gray cumulus he disappear
The bird out of sight though his song one does hear
Good memories of what was we tend to retain
And in fancy I'm back on old Clara again.
