On Paul Keating Poem by Francis Duggan

On Paul Keating

Paul Keating the ex Prime Minister of Australia not a philanthropist or one not known for ruth
With his cutting remarks his foes he has mentally wounded sometimes there can be injury with the truth
His old political foes may not have good cause for to like him but that does not ever seem to bother Paul
One can imagine that they must feel quite angry when their shortcomings in public he recall
For their own good reasons he is not liked by many though that does not seem to bother him at all
His cutting remarks have hurted proud and arrogant people and pride it always comes before a fall
Yet to those not involved he can seem quite witty and laughter in large ripples he provoke
But if you become the object of his satire you will not see him as a funny bloke
When Keating was Prime Minister of Australia Parliament House it never was a boring place
His cutting wit brought either howls of derision or laughter and heated debate he did seem to embrace
He has made many foes on his life's journey but his admirers too in numbers grow
And name me one for you will not find many who go through life without making a foe,
Paul Keating is one you either like or dislike for with him there is not an in between
And Parliamentary debate in Canberra seems less entertaining since he has left the political scene.
