On reading Daruwalla, I can see the Parsis being displaced, dislocated from Persda, finding refuge in India, the Parsi heart and soul, the IPS, the RAW man ever ready to take up Middle East.
To read Daruwalla is to experience a different feeling of a different psyche and space and he seems to be one of some other space who has nothing to do with Indian culture and tradition, ethos and milieu.
He is a poet of some hard heart and so unsentimental that one cannot make it what he is taking up and what he is saying. Lahore, with it the story of life began it, but the Partition spoilt the game and they came before it taking place. But dislocation took him to Gujarat, Ludhiana. His father too had been a professor of English. But the things took a turn.
Keki N.Daruwalla takes a poetic note of what it teaches him experience, what he comes to observe as the myths of India not his myths, the lore of Persia his lore and stock, his diction Hindustani diction, word stock and he a poet from Lahore writing the poetry of a hard heart, drawing and deriving from his own apart from landscapic penetration and tragedy, violence, accident, disease and death he has dabbled in.
