On Saddam's Execution Poem by Francis Duggan

On Saddam's Execution

For their sins everyone the price must pay
And Saddam Hussein is to swing today
Off of a gallows in distant Baghdad
As a human being his life record is bad
The crimes of Saddam are hard to forgive
But like his victims he too had a right to live
He could have been left to die in jail of old age but instead
Some will revere him as one of the martyred dead
The one who was a self appointed king
Today in Baghdad from a rope will swing
A ruthless bully who abused his power
And those who opposed him under him did cower
But since Saddam was deposed thousands of Iraqis have died
And any form of justice of their kin has been denied.
