On Second Thoughts? . Poem by Bernard Franklin

On Second Thoughts? .

If you don’t think you need your inner strength,
if you don’t think you need your pride.
If you don’t think you need some faith in god,
to ensure he’s on your side.

If you don’t think you need your courage,
if you don’t think you need your love.
If when all is lost, when nothings left,
and push has come to shove.

If you don’t think you need compassion,
if you don’t need to be sincere.
If you saw a child was dying,
but didn’t shed a single tear.

If you don’t think you need some inner peace,
if you don’t sometimes need to be alone.
If your not thankful for the life you have,
but scowl, then moan and groan.

If you don’t think you need your family,
if you don’t sometimes need a friend.
If when times are hard you stand alone,
and don’t accept the help that they can lend.

If you think that you’re an island,
a lonely rock upon the sea.
Think twice my friend, have second thoughts,
for we need all these things don’t we? .
