Once And Never Again Poem by Bryan Taplits

Once And Never Again

Never again will I see such a dream
In that brook that traversed space along the way,
To see her reclining, inviting, amazing,
So I dipped toe in brook
where calmly she lay.

There I found waters much too deep
Roiled, and those waters were much too chill
And deep was the creek-
with banks much too steep
Making my advances across
a journey uphill.

My dream too confusing to control
She arose and
I saw her brief shadow that was
soon out of sight-
Yes, she was what I had seen-
still enwrapped in my dream,
But she bobbed and she swayed
Then scrambled up
to the unreachable moonlight.

I regret that she evaded my clawing grasp
I'd have held her forever till the last page of doom,
Yet, because my dream had escaped
no more could I slake-
From that brook in my dream
who stole away much too soon.
