Once You Was Poem by Randy McClave

Once You Was

They cried out! that he was a rapist
They cried out! the other was a thief,
After they both were then murdered
Those judges screamed their pleasure and relief.
They cried out! that the one man was this
And they cried out! that the other man was that,
They screamed remember what they was
Before, their fatal death from that attack.
I was once myself a liar
And I was once myself a thief,
I was once myself a very bad person
And I once brought both misery and grief.
I listened to those who watched and judged
Who accused those two murdered for what they was,
And how happy they were when they were murdered
That's what evil people think and does.
Three men once long ago were all judged
Because what they was, they all deserved to die,
A thief and two criminals they all was
But, once was, then later two were in paradise.
