One Candle Poem by William Kofoed

One Candle

Sun is set
day is gone
shadows are lost
darkness comes

and with in
to face the night
last candle is lit
its light cast

the room though small
too large still
for flickering light
from candle small

day is gone
light is lost
darkness grows
stealing all sight

each small breath
of air disturbed
casts flickering fear
of failing light

as minutes grow
in hours lost
and wax consumed
forever lost

in sputtering end
as flickers fail
the darkness falls
