One Fine Morning The Dictator Said Poem by Emmanuel George Cefai

One Fine Morning The Dictator Said

One fine morning the Dictator said:
Make me, my face a big rock-face
Features
Exact and precise for posterity.

Carving on he mount

Work day and night that I might see
My image in an as a mount by end of week

Worked they in thousands as dressed
Slaves; and whips were in the hundreds if not thousands too.

On Saturday his henchmen came
And said:
Great Leader the work be night complete.

In a convoy of cars they came in luxury.

And the Dictator stood in front to view.

He smiled; quipped in good humor too.

Then early Sunday they inaugurated all.

But the heavens immense took offence
And said:
Not a full day will last
An unjust monument to such Unjust Man.

Dusk early came that day
And Night as early quickly slipped

Dark upon dark upon dark
Hid stars, planets, moon;
Then the Storm began and
Raged
And raged
And raged

The more it raged the wilder became
And stronger.

Downpours of rain
Thunder and lightning
Together competed.

Then Lightning struck
As they say thunderbolts of Zeus
One on one; one after each one.

Till the First Fissure in the Rock appeared
Right through
Cutting nose and lips that fell
The other followed in an hour's Storm.

Stopped then the Storm that very Night.

And in the morning all was seen in the first ights
A High Voice from above:
Said:
See what happens to the great unjust
From highest summits fall they then to dust.
Arise people! Arise! And the Dictator throw.

Thus fired
The People united rose
And fell
fell
the Dictator mighty and his blood
dried sudden into the Dictator's dust.
