One Single Tear Poem by Edward Schriner

One Single Tear

She wakes up to find her father over her
Hovering above, dressed in only his robe.
A look in his eyes that spells instant trouble
Her heart hardens feeling that she has no hope.
He falls upon her, sliding her pajamas off slowly
And she is wondering why this is happening to her.

Lust is in his heart as hope is within her soul
Her cries to her daddy fall upon ears so cold.
As she faces the wall knowing she has nothing to fear
Down across her innocent face runs one single tear.

He gazes upon his brother with a look of esteem
Sensing a feeling of pride in his young heart.
As he follows Gene around wherever he goes
Secretly Gene wishes that his sibling would depart
Unexpectedly, the young boy stumbles and trips
And Gene starts toward him ready to strike relentlessly

Anger is in Gene's heart as hope is within his brother's soul
His cries to his brother fall upon ears so cold.
As he receives the blows knowing he has nothing to fear
Down across his innocent face runs one single tear.

They observe their mother opening a package
Yet what lies within it contains nothing good.
She brings out a card to cut it and a lighter to burn
Slowly heating the drug as any addict would.
As she draws up the syringe to shoot into her vein
Her heart gives out from the years of constant abuse.

Gluttony was in her heart as hope is within their souls
Their cries to their mommy fall upon a body so cold.
As they look upon her body knowing they have nothing to fear
Down across each of their innocent faces runs one single tear.
