Onion Poem by Nestor David Armas

Onion

Yes I am an onion;
The more you peel away
New layers grow in their place;
I make many cry and they stop
They can't take the truth I exude;
But it's not just them suffering,
Sometimes I do too;
Finding out they don't
Have what it takes,
And I continue as I am
Alone yet not lonely;
Independent yet not arrogant,
Happy yet not lost in bliss;
I learned to play hide and seek
Since I was a kid; But
I played all by myself,
I hid more than me;
I buried my true personality,
Slowly it's been peeking out;
At least it has with you,
So know; this is a steep
Mountain I'm climbing
And I'm always looking down
Not afraid just aware,
That you're the only reason
I look up at all...
