Only In A Poem? Poem by Chris Haifley

Only In A Poem?

Maybe in a poem.
Maybe in a poem?
Is man still immortal in poetry?
Does love always stay?
Are the seasons always pure?
Through our minds, we don't create, but enhance.
We don't fictionalize a story of true love where no one meanders into sin,
We don't weave the words into a perfect encounter with nature,
Or write out a tragedy with calm, fluent hands,
No.
We experience it, then enhance it with all the filters of our mind,
Wash it through all our emotions experienced, and knowledge gained,

So,
Not only in a poem does love stay,
But love enhanced.

What mature thoughts you do write. Yes, we do filter our poems through our own experiences; and yes, there is room for a great poet to arise in our time. Perhaps it may be you. There are so many subjects to explore that you need not settle into the rut of the beginner and resort to “love” and “love lost.” Read mine – Cicatrix - but then do not stop there. Adeline
