Only One Word Is Understood Poem by Raymond Farrell

Only One Word Is Understood

How can we know love
Without the knowledge of hate
Are not the standard our own
As are the reasons we state

Many absolutes are relatives
We dare not say for sure
Words truthfully transmit our feelings
And their meanings are secure

Empty ritualism becomes an entity
Thousands willingly embrace
Others search for different metaphors
To plug life's empty space

This struggle for meaning
Goes on with heated breath
Only one word is understood
That word is Death.
