Our Earth Mother Poem by Francis Duggan

Our Earth Mother

The poets they sing about her the artists her do draw
And she lives independently of human kind and she has her own law
And one of the laws of Mother Nature is we all must die one day
Like every other life form for that is Nature's way
She is our great Earth Mother the one who feeds us all
Yet our many sins against her are too numerous to recall
Her oceans and her waterways her lands and air we do pollute
And in so doing climate change we have hurried on as we face our moment of truth
That for our sins against our Earth Mother the price will be huge to pay
On our very existence she has the final say
We all deserve the karma the karma we are due
And we cannot be true to Nature if to greed we are true
In a thousand years from this day human kind may not be around
But other more environmentally friendly species in the Planet may abound.
