Our Highest Hope Poem by Gary James Smith

Our Highest Hope

Our Highest Hope

In that little town of Bethlehem
In a solitary place
Was a special woman chosen by God
To bless the whole human race
Whose heart was prepared beforehand
To receive the truth by faith
That she would birth the Messiah
Who would in turn birth saving grace

What joy the angels sang about
Earth was about to receive her King
Looked but a baby in swaddling clothes
Yet to God He was everything
In the most humble of beginnings
To the most humble of an end
Hanging humiliated for all to see
Yet praise God the sinner's Friend

That no respecter of persons
Yet the greatest of personhood
Behold the Man of Calvary
Behold the Son of God
Who drew all men unto Him
When He was lifted up on high
Behold the Saviour of the world
Let Jesus Christ be magnified!

Hallelujah what a Saviour!
