Our Love Poem by Lesiba Mphahlele

Our Love

We've got that strong type of bond,
Surely becomes stronger in every second!
No weight can ever tear,
No tempest can ever stir;
Elastic and flexible, though firm,
Studious with the cheek of a ram,
Against fate and chance
And fatal traps and the distance.

We've got that strong type of love,
Buoyantic like the sea-wave, peaceful as a dove.
Knowing when to act and when to not,
Cupid's arrow caught us at the spot!
Eternal like the wet fountain,
Torrent as the thunderous rain,
Who dares to stand against it?
Who dares to make it split?

Ay! Connection that runs deeper than the seas,
Quick and defensive as the honey-bees,
Prickly as the apple-shaped rose,
With a daring and attractive pose.
Walking the same journey before we met
Through muddy ponds to conquer it yet!
Who thought adoration wasn't strong?
How could he be so wrong?
