The night was thick and palpable
A cloud of darkness
Filled even our bedroom
Where a quarter of a candle
Had flickered but suffered exhaustion
And was sswallowed by the night
Every where dumbness
And calm reigned.
Suddenly there were intermittent
Emissions of noise of thicking origin
We gropped in the night
With a modicum of courage
For fright was the order of the night
Then I remembered
Our new wall clock
It was it singing
A lonely song in
The frightening moment
Of our ignorance.
