Out Walking Poem by Lori Boulard

Out Walking

Rating: 4.0

a perfect morning beckons
the day can wait a while
I strap on my old shoes
and go walking

first few steps are slow
awkward and stiff
as if for the first time
awakening

the sun rewards my effort
its message is crystal clear
glad you could make it
I know

getting easier now
as my limbs warm to the rays
remembering their function
alive

my pace quickens
this is why I do it
mind and body again
as one

I spy an inchworm up ahead
laboring to cross my path
up down up down up
he continues

I could continue on
trample him underfoot
almost accidental
unnoticed

but what right have I to stake his fate
while living blind unto my own?

I let him pass
for I am going nowhere special
then again are we ever
really?

I like the way you bring in larger general themes at the end. They fit well.
