Outside In Poem by Esther Williams

Outside In

I am a constant battle,
But I won't always break you.
I am always present,
But I won't always take you.
Although I am not a friend,
I may impact your beginning, middle or end.
I am researched and documented,
But also forever changing.
I am many things with many names,
But will I choose the rules of this game?
People talk about me and sometimes I bring sorrow,
Sometimes you weep, I'll anticipate tomorrow.
What did you do to deserve disaster?
A fiasco that dulls your laughter.
I am what I am.
I am a down, an evil, a shadow.
I will conquer the disaster and darkness
I am a partner and you are part of this.
I am uninvited, unwelcome and alone
I am a displeasing intruder in you home.
Will you rebel, stand and fight?
Gather all strength, passion and might?
I am invisible, silent and cold.
I cannot embrace, will you stick or fold?

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
I live everyday with an invisible disability and disease. Others are not always able to understand the internal battle. Sometimes the desire to give in or give up is as the forefront of your mind. The disadvantage of it not being visible does not take away it's impact on your life, emotions or even sometimes simply your daily routine. It will always have some control but you can chose whether or not it rules you completely.

This is somewhat about a great deal of human nature. The sad difficult part, though,
