Oy Void, Oy God, Oy Walt, Oy... Poem by Linda Hepner

Oy Void, Oy God, Oy Walt, Oy...

Rating: 5.0

I will start here with a double-u, gone missing
from Latin alphabets in sound, not lists;
the French say 'v' with o-u-i for spelling
which causes Franks and Teutons to use fists.

The next big fight is over t-h-e,
said wrong as t or d or even zed,
which brought about two world wars, maybe three
if counting fall-out problems on our head.

My third and last for now is none-ze-less
when poetry is called for, such as here,
and good old English sounds and roots we stress
that hark to Saxon, back there, hard and clear.

I swear I love the sounds like Walt and Weh,
or kennings, Girding-glans and ploughsman-Book,
that show the outlook of the writer's way
through Oy Gewalt, her watch, the Outer-Look

Hey, this reminds me that Anna R's blog is called 'Wordeaters' or something like that. For those that love language, as your poems always show... -chuck
