Pacing Up And Down Hunger Street Poem by Sarah Mkhonza

Pacing Up And Down Hunger Street

At this time of restless,
I pace up and down trying
to find scattered throughout
the day, for my soul knows
this hunger should not be
drilling into this body.

Coiled into a ball of hungry
souls, I see this young me
in this boy searching for a
place to rest a tired soul.

This pairing of me and the
hungry calls for a way to
connect two hands alike
and unwind a oneness that
builds hope.

To share a depth of spirit
is to sing a song unheard
knowing one day every heart
will know and shout in a world,
that says hunger beast, no
more.

Then eyes hopeless will be
eyes hopeful. Right now
where smiles are rare,
we tread with care knowing
one day we will share a life
real for we will know where
and how far we came to get to
a hunger free world of smiles.
