Participating In A Poetry Contest Poem by Rimni chakravarty

Participating In A Poetry Contest

Like every year submit a poem
I don't know the definition but search for a rhythm
To what I scribble when a footballer might dribble
With his football to score a goal
And satisfy his soul;
No idea of what to express
Do I need to impress?
On to the judges and be awarded at least a consolation prize!

I have no such desire
Is it true?
What I say under the blue?
Truth is just a fiction
I too burn with a fire
To earn a recognition
So respond to my stimulus and write,
Hope the judges will think of it at night,
Although at day time may cast it away to look for a better one
With the passage of time this piece too passes into oblivion.

Nothing is permanent as I scribble in this world of transience
Only the effort to what I type in front of the computer is fruitful
Yes fruitful, not futile
I have spent some quality time in expressing myself,
I have not hidden these thoughts inside a shelf
And let them die as time fly.

I may not compose a poem but to what have expressed is a tool,
A vehicle to express my opinion about all who participate in a poetry contest
Their emotions, feelings when undergo an acid test
Hoping to bring grace and grandeur in life
While they are at strive.

In this rat race of competition
As a participant I tell my inner me to enjoy the fun
Expect not or else have to combat with frustration
Later lose to be overwhelmed with depression.

I smile and click the button meanwhile
