Patented In Fear Poem by Janine Louw

Patented In Fear

Born to fear
taught to fear
a people patented in fear

Careful, stop, don't do it, drop
all the words telling us we should not
dare to be, dare to see, dare to be free
a people patented in fear

road map drawn up by those who don't care
teaching young minds, using words that scare
programming us not to go near
what we hold dear
teaching young minds to let go of foolish dreams
saying it over and over
'til in our heads it screams
careful, stop, don't do it, drop

Easy to let go
of what you don't know
except for your heart that burns with desire
for something you need and to which your soul aspire
walking the road much travelled
makes your whole being unravel
cause thats not your path
and taking it, cuts your life in half

Yet voices in your head
suffocates you till you're dead
words keep screaming and screaming in your mind
careful, stop, don't do it, drop
careful, stop, don't do it, drop

But if you let them lord over you
they will gladly applaud you
cause once again
a soul gave in
another being patented in fear

Careful, stop, don't do it, drop
do not find your own voice
it will just sound like a noice
so be careful, stop, don't do it, drop
careful, stop, don't do it, drop

another soul stopped
and is patented in fear.
