People Fall In 'love'... Poem by DM W

People Fall In 'love'...

People fall in 'love' like in fairy tales.
In the West, mawkish sentiment spreads like
A plague from verdant youth to ragged age.
Shakespeare once quipped that winged Cupid is blind.
The mind distorts what the eye cannot see.
Hence, ' love' is a form of mental illness.
Often our dreams confound reality.
If visitors from other worlds witnessed,
And took note of this curious thing called
' Love', I am certain that they would conclude
That we primordial earthlings have stalled
In terms of progress, by replacing Truth
With all that is vain, unworthy and crude.
Such matters allow me much time to brood.
