Persistent Organic Pollutants Poem by Paul Falconer

Persistent Organic Pollutants

Rating: 5.0

They say the cubs of Polar bears, are being poisoned every day
One thousand times over tolerable limits, results of Man's decay

Global warming and climate change, casts the hemlock in the Arctic
While mossy green cuts new paths, in the undiscovered Antarctic

White coats of fur, silhouetted so glorious across the Northern sky
The seals are scarce, their journey will end, on the ice caps they will die

They have no voice but speak to us, thru the suffering in their faces
Can we shepherd them, please do tell, to other pristine places.

So magnificent they stand, embodiment of strength and power
Fashioned by God's loving hands, but Man now decides their hour

There are some things worth fighting for, I say to you today
It's not too late to close the gate, on bended knee I pray.

In time to come, the ice will melt and upon Man a deathly tide
To sweep away the wicked men, there's no saving their hide

The bears long gone, seals everywhere and vastly populated
The balance is lost, the wild polar bear, kept the seals regulated

Some say in three score years, two thirds of them will have vanished
Chemicals that reached the ice, ought to have long been banished

At the turn of the century, wild polar bears, will be a legacy lost
We implore you now to save our bear, no matter what the cost!
