But why,
Why did you get stuck,
Stuck into
The Yugoslavian problem,
The Yugoslavian crisis

Of Serbia, Bosnia,
Croatia, Herzegovina,
Macedonia, Montenegro,
Slovenia,
Ethnic, racial, linguistic,
Religious,
Prejudiced, hypocritical,
Pontifical, biased,
Inhuman and unjust?

Peter Handke,
What was your interest,
Interest,
Were you amediator,
A peace-maker,
A peace-keeper,
A politician
Or a journalist
Reporting about

The Yugoslav wars,
The vested interests of the parties,
Multi-ethnic affiliations
And prejudices
Wreaked havoc, havoc
In disintegrating and falling down,
Theocratic and sectarian moves
Battered, battered it
To crumble and fall to totters

Was it your mother was a Carinthian Slovene,
Was it the World War issues,
Was it German, Austrian participation,
Legacy of history,
What, what was it that,
That got you stuck into,
Into the Yugoslavian vortex,
Blizzard, trouble waters
Which was but a fault of leadership
And public understanding?
