Poet’s Notes:
This is kind of a sad poem for me, for it basically says 'Here I am, a man who loves you as much as he knows how, hoping against hope that it is enough and that you can love me too, even knowing my love will perhaps never make you feel completely safe. And yet though I need you as I do and want you in every way, the poem affirms that I trust YOU with your own life, that you do not need me to rescue you, and that our love will survive in spite of the odds against it, in God's will.
