Ph: Love: Love By The Numbers Poem by Brian Johnston

Ph: Love: Love By The Numbers

Rating: 5.0

We do not always wake up
With smiles on our face,
And some mornings are harder,
Love feels out of place.

Touching her's really simple,
But feelings aren't there,
Your nose suddenly itches
When nuzzling her hair.

On days lacking emotion,
IMAGINE YOU FEEL,
You might even discover
The act becomes real.

Can I put this together?
Will she even care?
First steps are the most daunting
When climbing a stair.

She could be feeling off too,
You're both in a lurch,
But the gift of your time will
Score higher than Church.

Sometimes vision comes slowly
Of what we should do,
But to paint using numbers
Can carry you through.

You don't need sweat the broad strokes,
Do what you're able,
And love's finest feast will be
Spread on your table.

Aware it's your life partner
Lying in your arms,
Just say goodnight to dis-ease,
Remember her charms.

If you believe anything
You best believe this
Even mechanical love
Can restore your bliss!

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM

If you would like to give this poem a rating, please do so in a comment that is separate from your regular comment if you leave one. Many poets, including myself, have been experiencing visits from hard to identify PH members who like to damage other's poem's ratings with illegal multiple votes of 1.0 and make a mockery out of normal voting. You voting in a comment field helps me to protect your rating of my poem which they wish to destroy. I know that this is a bit of extra work for you, but believe me it is appreciated.

Poet's Notes:
Some of you will remember an art craze of the past, where a want-to-be artist would buy a painting in a kit form. The kit would include a canvas with a lightly sketched drawing that was divided into patches with numbers inside them which indicated what color to paint in that space. When you finished painting in all the numbers you would wind up with a fairly decent painting (though of course not a great work of art) .

There are days when we don't wake up great lovers, or when events conspire to bring us low. My intention here is was not to paint a picture of a love that has died, but to remind us all not to be so hard on ourselves on days when we find romance is lacking spark.

I saw a poster once of a man playing tennis. He is flying through the air reaching for the ball with his racket. Both of his feet are off of the ground. The caption on the poster is 'If you want to feel enthusiastic, act enthusiastic.' Call it muscle memory, call it self-hypnosis, but playing a role can put you in touch with what is actually in your heart. Enjoy!
COMMENTS OF THE POEM

Rich in a rabid realism that is refreshing. Powerfully penned professor! 10/10

a well-penned one......we indeed get into mechanical relationships at times.....more of symbiotic kind....we do judge ourselves harshly, when romance turns mild and relationships sour.....Isn't is a reason why relationships in Wets are short-lived? We do lose the joy and zeal as the relationship matures, , , , , now how ironical is that! Well I would like you to elaborate and explain me what you meant in last stanza..

indeed well-written, shows great emotions. Although there are many including me who haven't been through such situations but that doesn't mean it's not happening around. Most of the times we fight for the one's we love but in return they never give you what you deserve. So I see no point in a relationship such as the one mentioned in the poem.Cause if there's no love then there's no future to it either. You delivered your message quite well.

Sometimes the feeling just isn't there. But usually when that happens, it doesn't return. You can't turn love on and off. Either you feel it, or you don't. And if you feel uneasiness, that's a warning, for sure. Is mechanical love good for anyone? Would anyone appreciate it? There's nothing like the real thing..... A good, thought-provoking poem, well written.
