Pigeon Fancier! Poem by Denis Martindale

Pigeon Fancier!

Every pigeon has its glory,
Every pigeon has its tale,
Every pigeon has its story
Upon the worldwide scale.
Every pigeon has its footprint,
Every pigeon has its beak,
Every pigeon that could ever sprint
Each time it takes a peek.

Yes, pigeons are a common scene,
No matter where I roam,
Yes, every single place I've been
Until I get back home.
Upon the rooftops waiting,
And on the poles outside,
Each bird is celebrating
All that the Lord's supplied.

They bill and coo each time they woo,
And often stoop down low,
The males are saying 'I LOVE YOU! '
Before the females go.
They know that they can't win them all,
But still they try again,
Sometimes males need a miracle,
You know what happens then!

I've seen their courtships daily,
I've seen the females fly,
The males don't look as gaily,
As each one's asking why.
What can I say? 'Good luck with that!
Today's not over yet!
But watch out for our neighbour's cat!
He's the fastest one I've met! '

Here's a brand-new pigeon poem by the Poemhunter poet Denis Martindale. Denis introduces us to another whimsical tale of the pigeons. He's seen them across England, Wales, France and Spain, although most of the pigeons he'll never see again!

Denis brings the poem home to roost for all those local lovelorn pigeons, with a teenie-weenie warning about a teenie-weenie apex predator known as Pat the cat. Nuff said.
