Pining Away Poem by Ziyanda KUBONI

Pining Away

Just like that grief had caught up to us
Vigorously shaking everything we knew
No time to adjust
Suddenly everything became blue
From dining and laughing in a portrait
To sobbing uncontrollably just by seeing your portrait.
I have been pining away since your departure.
Years have passed but the grief persists
I console myself with the fact that you were a martyr
But still you are missed
The sound of your voice
The warmth of your hug
I will forever rejoice
To the fact that I knew you so intimately
That you were a part of my being
Though I wish I had told you that while I still had time
That truth is as bitter as lime
I know you are happy where you are
I imagine you nestled up on Abraham's chest
Glad that you passed your test
I am at peace
As I give your picture a kiss.
