You played with someone else's child
in another's yard. Everyone saw it.
Even I, who is so far away,
I felt it and then I knew it.
You've skipped the fence
and went back to my yard.
You played with me
year, two, maybe three.
I was playing with you
out of habit and meaningless.
Old fire does not go up
Never a big flame.
Still, you can not set them on fire
twice without burning.
You've often skipped our fence
and I saw it clearly.
I am afraid of that other person's child.
It's dangerous when children are
next to the old fire
even when it's fake.

Igra s vatrom
Igrala si se sa tuđim djetetom
u tuđem dvorištu. Svi su to vidjeli.
Čak ja sam, koji ovako daleko,
sam to osjećao i a posle i znao.
Preskočila si ogradu
i ušla ponovo u moje dvoriše.
Igrala si se samnom
godinu, dvije, možda, tri.
Igrao sam se s tobom
iz navike i bez smisla.
Stare vatre ne gore
nikad velikim plamenom.
Ipak ne možeš ih zapaliti
dva puta a da se ne opečeš.
Preskakala si, često, našu ogradu
i ja sam to jasno vidio.
Bojim se za to tuđe dijete.
Opasno je kad su djeca
pored stare vatre
čak i kad lažno tinja.
