Police - The Quiet Mean Streets Poem by Paul Warren

Police - The Quiet Mean Streets

It's quiet in the street
All the people are asleep
The clouds rush past
A full moon sky above
The cold slowly seeps in
But I know that's Ok
To walk alone again
In the gentle quietness
Now the mean streets
Show its hidden mercies.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
In the middle of one of the hardest to police areas of Adelaide. One morning after things settled down from a busy night of violence. I was the patrol sergeant and was out patrolling whilst my patrols were typing reports. I stopped the car and stepped out to walk around to clear my head. It was 3.00 am and really quiet. It struck my how quiet and gentle it seemed after so much violence - the now quiet mean streets.
