Politicking At Church Poem by Randy McClave

Politicking At Church

While I was at church today
As I went there to worship and pray,
Exited to feel the spirit and hear the word of God
Which is truthful and never a fraud.
As the pastor there began to preach
With words of love and salvation I was hoping him to teach,
He then read from the Book of Nehemiah
The Old Testament, not the words of our Lord and Messiah.
Then surprisingly just like a magician
The pastor then turned himself into a politician,
As he started preaching political
To which I myself and maybe others thought wasn't critical.
He spoke the whole complete sermon
As if he were speaking about sinful and evil vermin,
I didn't feel that our Lord Jesus was there
So, my sadness unto our Lord I then whispered a prayer.
I believe in the separation of church and state
That of course makes our country great,
Neither one tells the other one what to say or to do
That makes us proud red, white and blue.
Then as the pastor kept on speaking
As if votes and political support he was seeking,
Then while in disbelief I was thinking
The Devil I thought would have a very easy picking.
As I myself later read in the New Testament Roman's 13: 1
Created and knew before the first dawn,
Let every person be subordinate to the higher authorities
That must be their main and first priorities.
There is no authority except for what God has given
And those that exist have been established for every soul livin'
So, to our lord God who is listening and does love and care
The authority that does exist, God has placed them there.
