Portrait On The Wall Poem by Frank Adie

Portrait On The Wall

Behold her picture on the wall
A nostalgic memento of my beloved
Who left to answer death's call
And now lives six feet underground.

Her stare looks real but yet unreal
A smile long gone but still around
A gesture of elegance seen by all
Who care to know that she once lived.

Bodies may die, but people stay
In portraits and in the hearts of men
Long after they have gone away
Like my precious lovely queen.
