Portrait Of True Neighborliness Poem by Frank Adie

Portrait Of True Neighborliness

The priest saw him and passed by,
So did the Levite.
But the Samaritan came, stopped-
"And had compassion on him;
He set him on his beast;
And took him to an inn; "
He bounded his wounds, and cared for him;
Before setting off again.

Sometimes we have a need,
And run to people for help-
And seldom get disappointed -
By those we hope on the most;
Like the biblical priest and Levite,
Most people will never care;
The ones you least hoped on,
May turn out to surprise you.
All men do have a heart,
But a compassionate heart is rare;
Strive to be compassionate to people,
And you will not miss your reward.
