PRAYER Poem by María Mercedes Carranza

PRAYER

No more dawns or customs,
no more light, no more jobs, no more instants.
Only earth, earth on the eyes,
between the mouth and the ears;
earth on the crushed down breasts;
earth inside the dried up belly;
earth pressed under the back;
along the half-opened legs, earth;
earth between the hands lying there.
Earth and oblivion.
