Precious Eagle Poem by Emily Thom

Precious Eagle

Through sudden change beheld a beautifully majestic black eagle
He was liberated from burden, while separated from the dim light of mortal distress

In a slow flight with his dark winged feathers, he flew through doubtful territory
The vanishing connection grew with every move he took, with time standing still

No longer could he hear my voice or share my discernment
His eyes reflected no dark shadows of hate
He was free

The desire for happiness was my only intention as I watched his long strides soaring above me
He was an unstoppable, mighty bird of prey
Always having the potential for greatness

Suddenly there was an indescribable moment that left him wounded
The pain which ended his flight, that could not be reversed
While looking in his noble eyes, I saw a bird of anguish that I could no longer comfort

The once familiar face could not be brought back, leaving him to be only but a beautiful creature of the past
The inconsolable cries as I awoke to a new day
Piecing together the puzzle of my unconscious thought while pushing away the reality as I lay in silence

Fly high my precious eagle
Do not let your admirable distinction be forgotten
And the memories of our shared enchantment will soon prevail over all that is uncertain
