Precious Little Bird Poem by Marilyn Lott

Precious Little Bird

Rating: 5.0

They are precious little birds
Not a lot of them around
A Black-capped Vireo they’re called
Witchita Mountains is where they’re found

This bird is one of a kind
There is olive green on his back
White spectacles this little guy wears
And a charming little black cap

Yellow wing bars too are his markings
That adds a lot of warmth and charm
I would love to have a place
To keep him from all harm

So much seems to be against them
And they’re on the endangered list
But there are folks that help them out
So safer places do exist

In the Salt Creek Canyon area
Is the perfect wildlife place
Special folks work hard
To keep these little birds safe

You’ll have to visit the Salt Creek Bridge
Is a such wonderful and unique sight
It all appears to be created
For this precious little bird’s plight

Red dirt edges the water
A charming place to go
I hope you can come along
You’re sure to enjoy it, I know!
