Predator Child Poem by Dallas Carter

Predator Child

Her breath on the side of my face,
The feel of her skin on mine.
Hands where I don't want them,
Lips where I don't need them.

Is this all I am?
Is this all I mean?

Too young to know the difference,
Too young to tell her no.
Too young to push her off,
Too young to cry for help.

My innocence forgotten,
My childhood left in flames.

Does the future hold something better?
Does the future hold my worth?
Does the future hold rejection?
Does the future hold my hope?

Memories that wrote the scars,
Memories that wrote the stars.

The face of fear is ever changing,
It holds each to their own.
For me this early memory,
Hers is the face that holds my dread.
