Pretend - Poem by Rusty (Ed) Gibson

I was so glad
that I could pretend
To be your guy
your boyfriend

To buy you shots
and good cold beer
To hold your hand
and hold you near

To tell your friends
you’re the best
Your something special
not like the rest

I will say anything
that they want to hear
How wonderful you are
and oh what a dear

Just a white lie
for your family and friends
Just for you
I will pretend

I was so honored
to have you close
Holding my arm
I have to boast

Time seemed
to completely stop
I finally found it
what I want

Then they all left
its like I knew
It was just a game
you were playing too

I thought that I
could put on a show
for all of your friends
but you need to know

Every look every wink
every kiss on your cheek
and everything I did
Not once did I pretend

No Hollywood coach
No mirrors and smoke
No make believe
I did it all for free
