You Were There Poem by Rusty Ed Gibson

You Were There

You were there
when I turned 15
we went for a ride
in my old GMC

You were there when I fell
and limped off the field
you stayed by my side
when the pain was unreal

you were with me the night
I drove across the lake
little did we care
that dam was about to break

You were with me through good times
and even some bad
You hung out with my family
and I worked for your dad

I got married and so did you
but who the hell were the other two
I ran off and you left town
that was the end of our running around

30 years later
with my heart about to break
you came to my rescue
and for that I say Thanks!
