Prince Dara Shikoh Poem by Shamik Kumar Bose

Prince Dara Shikoh

O Prince of Heart!
Inside the gorgeous hearts of Great Moghuls
You reign as an Emperor
Like Badshah Shajahan, your father
Who loved you like a tender flower
Tender you were! So your heartless brother
stained his hands with your blood
Like a red rose torn apart from his throne
History has never stopped to moan
O my Prince of Heart!

Like great Akbar, you inherited
a love for all
You the Poet Prince, with love fetter'd
Love in your heart found a peace with Upanishad,
Gita and the Holy Bible
The Autumn winds sung with you inside Shalimar Bagh
You meditative, a Prince of Heart!

For a King's vallor is not in a war field,
he resides in the heart of his people,
whom he loves and not reigns;
You were so, unlike your heartless brother
So the roads of Delhi were stained with your blood
You, Martyr! The Poet Prince of Red Fort!
