Prison Of Glass Poem by Kelly Boutin

Prison Of Glass

There's a woman standing on the shore
A piece of glass in her arm
She's too afraid to move her arm
And remove the piece of glass
cause she knows it will hurt her more

So she builds a home out of the piece of glass
And makes it the ruler of her world
Her every move revolves around the shard
She can barely move
And when she talks she always winces
So she barely speaks her words

That piece of glass is her kingdom
But never her domain
She longs to rid herself of it
But she can never get away

Every night she cries and asks the sea
Why she's stranded on those rocks
"Because you cannot move so you cannot swim
Beyond a certain point"

She calls to the ever-longing moon
And asks it what it's saying
But it just shakes it's head at her
Because she could never hear it

"There is a reason for your pain,
And it's not even you
You've been conditioned to feel this way
This shard is your truth

You want to be free you always say
But I'm saying this for you
You cannot be free from what's inside
This ever-deepening wound

Because it's in your heart and it's in your mind
And it's in every thing you do
Your prison is your own life
And that shard you feel is you.

Oh my prison is my whole life
And that shard I feel is you

My prison has become my life
And your in my living room
