Prisoner Poem by Kwai Chee Low

Prisoner

I watched the candle flame flicker,
from my cell door.
Quivering in its halo,
throwing shadows on the wall.

Beyond the metal barred window,
silence of night.
The pale glow of a full moon,
nightfall with stars shining bright.

Day after day, night after night,
The view never changes.
I still my heart at freedom lost,
will time deaden all traces?

My heart lingers on memories,
it helps me to stay sane.
Reminiscences of a time,
never ever come again.
