My Island Home Poem by Kwai Chee Low

My Island Home

Rating: 5.0

Sea breeze so salty and warm
Dark clouds brewing up a storm
Sea spray all over my face
Worries long gone, without a trace

Homeward bound on a ferry
Childhood memories I carry
Now the island is in sight
Heart beating fast, my eyes are bright

Islanders’ windswept faces
Carefree lives in open spaces
Often roving the alleyways
Bicycles they ride everyday

Temple at island’s far end
Packed with tourists at every bend
Smoke from joss sticks scales the air
Lingering scent on clothes and hair

Thank you, Hans. The island is Pulau Ketam, literally translated as Crab Island; It is a small island located off the coast of Klang. The population reached a peak of 20,000 in the 1980s.
