It was there, you know... the way, I mean,
despite the dangers.
Yes, there it was –
I just had to extricate it -
and clear the bushes and undergrowth
and pull some thorns out of my skin -
and gently tug it at the corners
and smooth it in the middle
and trampoline-test it out.

I think the destination
is just over that hill
or the next...
or the next...
and I think
their life and mine will remain intact
and I promise to monitor the situation.
