Prof. Armando Menezes (1902-1983) Poem by Bijay Kant Dubey

Menezes who was not only an academic, a teacher,
A civil servant and a Goan,
But a poet and a critic,
A man of vast learning, dispersed meditations
And poetic parleys who was
Born at Sao Mathias, Divar, Goa, in 1902,
After having a tryst with Portuguese,
Menezes graduated from St. Xavier's College, Bombay, in 1924
Obtaining the Duke of Edinborough Scholarship and Chancellor's Gold Medal
And thereafter taught at the alma mater for sometime
To work as Professor and the HOD of English,
Later joined the Bombay Educational Service
As Professor of English at the Karnatak College, Dharwad
And finally rose up to the post of the Principal,
Was the first Head and Chairman of the Deptt. Of English
Of Dharwad Univ.
And was appointed the Undersecretary of Education
By the Bombay State.
